"We're the family jeweler who treats you like family"

Gus Saettele Sr. was a young man when World War II started. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Atlanta, Georgia doing precision work. While he was stationed there he got married and started a family. His new wife’s uncle happened to be in the jewelry business. Gus was attracted to this industry because he enjoyed working with his hands and it was similar to the kind of work he did in the service. When the war ended he moved his family back to St. Louis and started his own small jewelry shop doing bench work for local department stores. Over the years his business as well as his family grew. In 1974 Gus Jr. joined the company, in 1978 his other son Gary followed suit, in 2000 his granddaughter Angela began working in the family business, and in 2006 another granddaughter Breah started her career here. Today we have grown to eight employees and are now located in our own freestanding building in the heart of the business district of Clayton, MO. Three generations later, our goal is to continue to expand the business and to provide excellent customer service for generations to come. It has been many years since Gus started this company in a small office building and times have certainly changed. But we have always been proud of the fact that we are a family business that has a rich history and years of experience. Even though our list of clients has grown, there are many families who still shop here who knew Gus Sr. and now their children and grandchildren shop here too.

Our first location was in the Holland Building on 211 North 7th Street downtown. When the building was torn down in the late 1960’s we moved to the Arcade Building at 8th and Olive Street. In 1979 we moved next door to the Paul Brown Building, and in 1989 we moved out of downtown to the business district of Clayton. We were in the Jefferson Smurfit Building on the 2nd floor from 1989 until 1999. That’s when we finally acquired our own freestanding building at the prime location of Clayton and Brentwood, caddy-corner from the Galleria.

Saettele Jewelers Named Hearts on Fire Diamond's "Retailer Of The Year"

Saettele Jewelers was recently named "Retailer of the Year" by Hearts on Fire Diamonds. Glenn Rothman, president and founder of Hearts on Fire Diamonds, presented the award in Las Vegas at the annual Hearts on Fire University convention. Over 500 retailers from around the world participated in the sixth annual educational marketing event.
A Hearts on Fire diamond is the most perfectly cut diamond in the world. It gets its name from the ring of hearts you see if you look at it from the bottom through a proportion scope. "Our most important asset, said Rothman, "is our reputable retail partners like Saettele Jewelers. Their commitment, knowledge and enthusiasm is what makes Hearts on Fire the great brand that it is."
"I think we earned this award because of our extraordinary customer service," said Gus Saettele. "We really take the time to explain everything to our customers so they feel very comfortable with their diamond purchase." Gary Saettele added, "People especially like our satisfaction policy. You can't make a mistake at Saetteles, because everything is returnable to your satisfaction."
