Do you know your birthstone?
PDF Print E-mail
A customer called me the other day to let me know he and his wife were expecting their first baby together.  I had helped him out with his engagement ring last year and I love those surprise calls when newlyweds share the special news and to find out she is due in just a few weeks!  He wants to surprise her with a ring that symbolizes the baby’s August birthstone, Peridot.   Peridot is known to have the attractive bright lime green transparent color.  I think it is very fitting for August.  The color is so bright and colorful for summer.  Do you know what your birthstone is?

Are there different ways to cut a birthstone for a ring or a pendant similar to a diamond or other precious stone? Also how do you do it by the date of birth Month/Day similar to astrology?

A birthstone can be cut in many shapes like round, cushion, princess cut,oval...just to name a few. They are also faceted similar to a diamond. I love the colored stone rings from the passion collection by Lagos. Check them out! www.lagos.com Every month has its own birthstone. It is not like astrology where it goes by the date.

If you need an insurance appraisal on your jewelery we have a gemologist on staff who can appraise your jewelry for you. If you have more than 1 piece it is better to call and make an appointment. If you have any original paperwork and diamond lab reports it is very important to bring that to us.

I keep hearing about precious and semi-precious gems. What really is the difference? Is it the kind of stone or the quality that is the issue?
